St. Tryphon was a Phrygian gooseherd who was martyred in about 250, in the Decian persecution. His feast is 10 November in the West, 1 February in the East. A legend committed to writing in about 1005 names a certain Respicius as Tryphon's companion in martyrdom. Their relics were found together with those of St. Nympha, a virgin martyr from Palermo. Some believe that there were two saints named Nympha, one from the early fourth century, and the other of the sixth century.

Brief profile of SS. Tryphon, Respicius, and Nympha says that there is some doubt about the existence of the latter two.
