Ha'iku: Bamboo Mountain Santuary
The Sanctuary began life fifty years ago as a Japanese plantation house. Twenty-five years later it was converted into a Zen monastery and the home of Robert Aitken Roshi's Maui Zendo of the Diamond Sangha. Today, surrounded by a 62 acre garden estate and retreat center, Bamboo Mountain serves as a unique contemplative sanctuary for travelers and pilgrims along the Way.

A lay Zen Buddhist organization, was founded in 1959 by Anne Hopkins Aitken and Robert Aitken, Roshi, dharma heir of Yamada Roshi and author of Taking the Path of Zen, The Gateless Barrier: The Wu Men Kuan, and seven other Zen books.

Founded in 1982 by Omori Sogen Rotaishi, the mission of the Institute of Zen Studies is to make Zen more accessible to modern society.
