Former X-33 aerospike engine completes test series
The test of twin Linear Aerospike XRS-2200 engines, originally built for the X-33 program, was performed Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at NASA's Stennis Space Center, Miss. While the tests verified the feasability of the new technology, they, along with the X-33, failed to make it through the recent NASA reviews.

NASA announced that the problem-plagued X-33 spaceplane project, a venture that aimed to create a single-stage-to-orbit spaceliner, has been scrapped.
