The Sukhoi Design Bureau of Moscow, Russia has developed the Su-47 (previously called the S-37 Berkut) fighter aircraft, which first flew in September 1997. The fighter was designed as a test demonstrator, but the design may form the basis of Sukhoi's next generation fighter for the Russian Air Force.

Sukhoi has emerged as the victor in Russia's long-running design-bureau battle to lead development of its air force's so-called fifth-generation fighter effort.
