The Department participates in many interdisciplinary programs including American Studies, Asian Studies, Environmental Studies, Judaic Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, International Studies, Russian and East European Studies, Women's Studies, and the University Honors Program. Students who attain high standards of scholarship are sponsored for membership in the Department's Psi Theta Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the International Honor Society for History, and participate in the special programs under its auspices.

The graduate curriculum in History concentrates on the United States and on modern Europe. All degree candidates must declare one of three concentrations in the Master's program: United States history, European history, or an Individually-Designed History Concentration. The thesis is the final project for all candidates.
