Formerly American Association for Research in Baghdad (AARB). Established to promote scholarly research on and in Iraq and Ancient Mesopotamia. A consortium of universities and museums intending to establish a multidisciplinary American scholarly research center in Iraq.

Founded in 1932, the BSAI is concerned with Iraq, the northern Gulf, and Mesopotamian Syria.
