Works on plant variety protection, seed production, processing, and distribution of rice, barley, soybeans, corn and potatoes, and manages seed marketing and operating seed funds.

Activities include quarantine and inspection, animal disease control, sanitary control for livestock products, and related research and development.

Conducts R&D on agricultural technologies, quality control of fertilizers, pesticides, and agro-machineries, and gives guidance and training for rural development and home improvement.
