Academic Services and Emerging Technologies
Provides high-quality computing and information technology services, which host a professional staff and technical resources, and directly supports the teaching, research, and service goals of the University. A division of Information Technology Services (ITS). Formerly, the Center for Academic Computing.
Administrative Information Services
Serves as the central University resource responsible for supporting administrative computing. Provides secure and reliable computing capabilities, applications, and service to support the student and business needs of Penn State. A division of Information Technology Services (ITS). Formerly, the Office of Administrative Systems (OAS).
ANGEL
A course management system (CMS) that enables faculty to use the Web to enhance their courses without knowledge of HTML. Allows students to view such courses, as well as groups, bookmarks, files, e-mail, tasks, and calendars.
ASET Secure Server
Provides secure access to modify sensitive data, such as account passwords, email forwarding addresses, and phone directory entries. Provides access to various Web account options, such as directory quota and ACL reset.
Classroom and Lab Computing
Provides and supports personal computer laboratory, teaching laboratory and technology classroom facilities and services.
Consulting and Support Services
Combines the help desks, support functions, and consulting services from throughout Penn State into a single services unit that provides unity of support within the University. A division of Information Technology Services (ITS).
Digital Library Technologies
Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Library Information Access System (LIAS), as well as technical leadership in research, evaluation of new Library technologies, and support of workstation and network services of the Library systems. A division of Information Technology Services (ITS). Formerly, called Library Computing Services (LCS).
eLion
An expert, interactive system that provides access to important student information, such as academics, semester bills, course lists, schedules, degree audits, financial aid, grades, and withdrawal. Restricted to students, faculty, staff, and advisors. Includes an online demonstration.
General University Reference Utility (GURU)
Provides the policies, guides, and forms of the University that are available to the public, including those regarding the topics of Administration, Budget, Business, Financial, Human Resources, Research, Safety, and Travel.
ITS System Status
Displays the current status and various information of many of the systems of the ITS, such as Web, FTP, email, Usenet, gopher, PH, name, and authentication servers, and modem access. Updates once every minute.
LISTSERV
University's system to manage over 3,000 mailing lists created by classes, clubs, committees, and professional organizations to distribute announcements and maintain discussions.
Microcomputer Order Center
A non-profit service of Penn State that provides the University community with a full line of hardware, software, peripherals and accessories at low, academic prices. Ordering available online, in person, over the phone, or by fax. Sales only for Penn State students, faculty and staff.
Penn State Portal
Provides registered Penn State users with a personalized view of University and Internet resources. Allows users to collect favorite features and content in one Web location. To sign in, a Penn State access account and personal Web space account is required.
Penn State's Computer Store
Allows currently eligible students, faculty, staff, and departments to purchase premium Microsoft, Macintosh, Symantec, and SAS products at free or significantly reduced costs. Titles include FrontPage 2002, Mac OS X, Office XP, Office 10 Mac, Symantec AntiVirus, Visual Studio, and Windows XP.
ResConnect (Ethernet Registration System)
Allows users to request changes to network connections in wired residence halls. Users can request new service, service to be moved, and disconnections; Ethernet card changes; and information inquiries. Restricted to registered Penn State users.
Teaching and Learning with Technology
Helps Penn State faculty and staff enrich the educational experience of University students through use of technology by providing classrooms, labs, courseware, and specialized services. A division of Information Technology Services (ITS). Formerly, the Center for Education Technology Service (CETS).
Telecommunications and Networking Services
Responsible for developing, designing, installing, and maintaining comprehensive telecommunications services among University locations and outside networks to accommodate the communications needs of the University. A division of Information Technology Services (ITS). Formerly, the Office of Telecommunications (OTC).
WebMail
Allows registered students, faculty, and staff to view and compose email, manage directories and folders, and modify settings, using any Web-enabled browser instead of an email client.
