Department of Economics
The curriculum is a blend of basic economic concepts and their application to contemporary issues. Courses are designed to develop the student's reasoning capacity and analytical ability. By focusing on areas of application, students are challenged to use economic principles in stimulating their powers of interpretation, synthesis, and understanding.
Department of English
Courses in literature, creative writing and journalism. As an academic discipline, the study of English has as its goals to acquaint the student with various types of imaginative literature; to develop the student's analytic and organizational skills and to give the student further training in the organization and effective articulation of ieas in writing.
Department of History
The Department participates in many interdisciplinary programs including American Studies, Asian Studies, Environmental Studies, Judaic Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, International Studies, Russian and East European Studies, Women's Studies, and the University Honors Program. Students who attain high standards of scholarship are sponsored for membership in the Department's Psi Theta Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the International Honor Society for History, and participate in the special programs under its auspices.

Department of Philosophy

After an introduction to the nature of religion and the methods employed in its study, the student can select from a variety of courses exploring specific religious themes, such as scripture, spirituality, ethics, the problem of faith, and other areas.

As a major in this field, the student will examine the influences that come from interactions with people and other influences that come from the large social structures. In adding a comparative perspective, anthropology helps in understanding practices in a broader cross-cultural context.
