Primary objective of the Department is to achieve the highest quality vision research in order to facilitate the early detection and diagnosis of eye diseases and their successful treatment.

CERA has developed around the research activities of the University of Melbourne Department of Ophthalmology. It is also a World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for the Prevention of Blindness, the only such centre in Australia.

Publishes papers, book chapters and theses on the prevalence, incidence, correlates, physiological mechanisms, economic implications and treatment of myopia in Hong Kong.

CCLRU at the School of Optometry of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, deals in cornea and contact lens research. It is a large centre devoted to such research, with over 30 research staff and extensive laboratory and clinical services.
