Graduate students from a number of disciplines - such as computer science, linguistics, philosophy, psychology, educational psychology, and speech and hearing sciences - may tailor their program with this concentration.

Eleven subprograms, many allied to cognitive science, delineate the scope of the department's graduate curriculum.

This doctoral program blends the study of neural development and cognitive science.

The undergraduate major in Neuroscience and Behavior is a joint effort with the Department of Biological Sciences. All students majoring in psychology have opportunities to explore these main areas: cognition, psychobiology/neuroscience, and sensation and perception.

The program offers an undergraduate concentration and a graduate minor, with strengths in philosophy of mind and language, theoretical and experimental linguistics, cognitive psychology, computer science, and mathematical logic.

One emphasis of the program is the study of perception and cognition.

Based on cognitive and computational science and cognitive neuroscience, research in the Department focuses on learning, development and plasticity; perception and action; and natural language processing and acquisition.

Through this program, students can earn a Ph.D. in two disciplines. Participating departments are Philosophy, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Computer Science and Linguistics.

This Cognitive Science program was the first of its kind to grant undergraduate degrees in the U.S.
